Royal Anchor
- Keith Stainer (8th Aug 2023  15:21:14)

Is the Royal Anchor still open? They don’t reply to bookings and the land line message just gives a prerecorded message before hanging up.

Very few cars in the car park perhaps it’s been closed down. Such a pity used to be such a lovely place to go for a drink and a meal reasonably priced and great staff.

we went to the Royal Anchor last week, the place was very clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, the food was great, and served up nicely. So please don't start tearing the place to pieces when they are really on the up.

Still not keen on the way the staff are spoken to, borderline bullying.

It looks very untidy out side weeds growing up the new tree and looking very sorry around.. Are they serving food normal hours now because they cut down the times.

We went on Saturday and it was great! We stopped going years ago but took the chance as a last minute thing and the staff were amazing food was fast and lovely! They have really upped their game!

We walked in and straight out last Wednesday lunchtime.

We had to run the gauntlet of smokers gathered at the door and squeeze past.
Inside was gloomy dirty and grim.Hence our very quick departure.

Outside wasn’t much better,it was untidy and uncared for.

All in all disappointing and such a shame as it has so much potential being centre stage in the village.

The gauntlet of smokers being the staff!!!!

I don't think we need to keep doing this guys.

Ok we know by now that the Anchor is both loved and hated by different demographics in equal measure.

I like it for what it is, a reminiscence of what a 70s or 80s pub once was, a place you could go in equally in ripped jeans or suit and tie, have a pint and a game of pool, sit in or out in the huge garden, maybe if your budget stretched a pie and chips, or if you were, or wanted to appear, loaded, a VAT and pork scratchings with a white wine and chicken kiev for Marlene.

On the other hand if I'm out with my retired golfing pals we don't dare go near it, it's twice the price elsewhere for a sauted chicken breast with daupinouis frites and petit pommes, avec une large G&T served in a dinner hall that looks like it was decorated by John Lewis. Each to their own.

And yes, original question, it is still open!

- Local (10th Aug 2023  13:29:18)

Ok it’s not the savoy local pub but they could make it more attractive clean up all round make it look loved in the centre of the square.

Hanging baskets would brighten it up to compliment LIB efforts. It looks so run down that’s why people think it’s closed. Don’t the managers have eyes and see outside.

In reply to local...I expect they do notice, they just don't care! (or head office don't give them a budget if I'm being less cynical and generous)

Its far easier to sit inside uploading fake reviews on TripAdviser telling all how AMAZING it is and how AMAZING the staff are and how AMAZING the chef is.

Not sure how the word Amazing can be applied to the skill of taking prepped processed food out of a packet, reading the number 7 on the packet, placing it in a industrial microwave, then pressing the number 7.
