Outside drains
- MT (16th May 2023  18:07:13)

Some advice please
I think I may have a leaking sewage drainage pipe under the ground at the side of my house on my own property. Could anyone please suggest someone local, reliable and trustworthy to come and have a look? It may be that an underground pipe needs replacing.

Actually think they may need unblocking as have now found the manhole cover further along and ground is wet around that too. Advice still welcome!

One thing I found out when we had a blockage around the manhole cover is that if you share the manhole cover with your neighbour, i.e. both properties drain into the same manhole cover then the Water Board will deal with it for free.... if it's just your property then you are responsible - they will unblock it for a fee, or else you could try some drainage rods to see if you can push the debris through.

You need to contact your water supplier - Google ‘who do I contact re. sewage leak at xxx ‘ or it may be on your last statement.

They come out very quickly, even late at night, will investigate and sort. Check who is responsible for cost - it is seldom the property owner.

Have this a lot where I live, so speak from experience.

Hope this helps.

Thank you both for taking the time to answer. I think, in the first instance, I’ll try to find somebody who can lift the manhole cover for me and try drain rods. I appreciate your advice

Would be happy to come and have a look, local and experienced in ground works.
Many thanks
Len.
