LiB newsletter - Liphook in Bloom (27th Apr 2023 13:05:42)
I think we can say that Spring has definitely sprung now - the village is looking very colourful and the Millennium Bed has been absolutely stunning both in colour and aroma. The tulips are reaching their best and if you haven't been past the Sorting Office recently, it's definitely worth a visit.
A huge thank you to Joan Holdsworth for designing and sourcing the bulbs, everyone who came out and helped plant when the weather was fairly tricky in the Autumn and our Sponsors and Friends for making it possible for us to make the village look so welcoming.
WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON?
- The new turf has been laid around the Millennium Bed and thousands of crocus bulbs have been planted too. I think you'll agree it looks so much better now and Swish Fibre have promised not to park their vans on it in future!
- The Litter Pick on 2nd April was very well attended, so a lot of rubbish was picked. A big thank you to everyone who came out and took part. It was lovely to see so many families getting involved.
- The Heather Bed refurbishment has started. The shrubs at the back of the bed were past their best so have been replaced with some Euonymus bushes. The large healthy heathers have been moved towards the back of the bed leaving room for some replacements to be added.
- The Herb Bed outside Hiscocks is being rejuvenated leaving room for some new herbs which are being planted on 24th April. We have chosen some new flowering herbs for their colour so we're hoping for a vibrant display this summer which the bees and butterflies will love to visit.
- The shrub bed on the edge of the Village Green which LiB replanted several years ago, needed some attention, so it's been tidied up and more shrubs have been added. Many thanks to Jenny Bennett and Piers Plumridge who donated the shrubs from their own gardens.
WHAT'S COMING UP
- Liphook in Bloom will be attending the BLPC Coronation Celebration - Picnic and Fete on Sunday 7th May between 12 and 6pm. We have a ball throwing game and a hoopla game to take part in. There may be an egg game and a lucky dip. Please come along and see us.
- Our next working days are 13th and 14th May when we'll be taking up the bulbs to make way for the summer planting. Meet as usual in Midhurst Road Car Park at 9.30 on both days with a coffee stop at 11am.
