Railway Strikes
- AF (28th Oct 2022  01:43:35)

Railway strike dates have changed the strikes are now on the 5,7,9 November, the one on the 3 has been changed to the 9 November.

They are really annoying but I hope the railway companies and government hold firm against these agitators and don't give in. The railway unions have to accept that revenues have fallen as there are less passengers since the pandemic and their strikes are less effective as a lot of people can now work from home on strike days.

They will have to accept, as I and many essential workers who worked throughout the pandemic, a below inflation pay rise. The railways are heavily subsidized by the government and so any rise will have to be paid for by cuts to other services.

So we can either give a driver an extra 6-7K per year pay rise or employ some extra nurses.

Or maybe just maybe all working people not at the top of the greasy pole should receive a decent amount of pay. Our current fiscal system like our Governmental system is not fit for purpose.

So the Rail companies put the price of a ticket up 12%

But the people who work in the ticket office or on the rails get a 4% increase?

Country needs a General Election. It's time to get rid of these corrupt clowns.

Yes Gareth, time we get rid of these right wing clowns and replace them with left wing clowns! That’s the problem now, Parliament is not fit for purpose. Let’s give the Crown and military a bash at running things, democracy is definitely not working.

Gareth - the railway companies are privately run. How would a general election change things?
