Cats digging their holes in my garden
- Dollypops (29th Jul 2022  20:29:34)

A delicate problem. Our very sweet neighbours have a cat. It comes
Into our garden to dig it's holes wherever it finds newly dug earth - everywhere and anywhere.
I really don't want to upset the neighbours but it's becoming quite a problem, not just for us but our next neighbours along the road as well.
We have put chicken wire just beneath the surface but then it moves on to the next 'venue'.
There must be someone who knows the answer - we've not had such a problem before in many of our other homes, and there have been many.

I have a similar problem on occasions. I find if you buy some fresh lemons, cut them into quarters and spread them around, the cats will avoid that spot as they hate citrus. You have to renew when the lemons eventually dry out but it's a cheap option which works.

If the cat is habitually using your property for their regular toilet then the cat is partially yours, then you have part ownership over it. A responsible owner would keep their pets inside their OWN property. Maybe keep that cat securely inside your property?

Joking aside, this unwanted "sharing" of pets (pests) is disgusting. Your own private garden spoiled by a feral (yes, feral) cat is far worse than irresponsible dog owners failing to pick up after their dogs on public land.
To add pain to injury: Cat waste is dangerous to humans, cats make a major harm for our wildlife, cats destroy planting beds.

Irresponsible, antisocial "owners".

We used to have this problem, we used dry English mustard powder

@ grape. Some other well know cate haters....Hitler, Napoleon and Margaret Thatcher. Definitely not a pet for control freaks and narcissists.

@dave
Not a pet, a pest, already mentioned.
Leave your free living for those who wish for it and let other enjoy being in control over their own property (if not public owned properties). In your spirit of live and let live: let other decide if they want feral cat s**t on their hands or not...

Have to agree with Dave (surprisingly) I find most cat haters odd and generally unpleasant

Cats are protected by law and allowed to roam freely. It is illegal to harm them in any way. They remain the property of their owners even if digging in your garden. Deterrents such as citrus or even a water pistol (if not powerful enough to harm the cat) are effective.

I am absolutely NOT a cat hater by any means whatsoever; why should anyone presume that I am? Quite the opposite.

Thanks for all suggestions. Water pistols are not the answer as I never see the cat actually in my garden, but I shall try some of the other suggestions.
