Good restaurant lunch recommendation urgently required.
- Mary W (11th Jul 2022 11:46:48)
Have an overseas guest dropping in this week - can anyone recommend a decent restaurant within fifteen miles where we can get a good lunch in pleasant surroundings? Somewhere that has been tried out in last couple of months.

Deers Hut at Griggs Green is just fab as is The Rising Sun in Milland. Also recommend Harpers in Haslemere

The Links does a good pub lunch.
Further afield, the Stag on the River, Godalming
The Noah's Ark in Lurgashall

About 16 miles away is The Old Mill in Odiham. Good food and lovely surroundings also very quirky inside.

Deers hut if you have Potts of money. Stopped going when the fish and chips went up to 17 50 with a added on service charge. If it’s got sensible with it’s price’s then ok. The Jolly Drovers hil brow lovely food good surroundings and service. Garden out the back very nice if it’s warm .

Coppa Club at the Georgian Haslemere. Great place, not cheap, but a lovely environment for an occasion.

Sky Park Farm at Harting is lovely, as is Duke of Cambridge at Tilford and The Refectory at Milford.

I do think as the original poster asked for “ restaurant” recommendations to take an overseas guest they may be looking for somewhere with a menu requiring more than knowledge of a microwave and deep fryer. Peoples perception of what is a “ good restaurant “ seems to be at odds with mine, These days eating out has become a bit of an expensive lottery but the venues who pay for qualified chefs have to charge more.

If they like Thai food look no further Green Dragon very nice original pub lovely inside and out freshly cooked food. Good prices for food and drinks. If you like fish and chips the best around don’t no what they use to cook them in but fantastic.

The Fez Restaurant in Petersfield.
39 Chapel St, Petersfield GU32 3DY
Great food,quirky location easy parking.
Lovely service. I would take my granny !
Def not the DoC. ( Duke of Cumberland) Its gone downhill.
Visited last week, and the staff were completely disinterested.
The bar was messy, covered in glasses in need of washing.
One employee sitting with her feet on a bar stool.
Smokers right outside the main entrance.
We were ignored whilst waiting / looking for a table. No welcome or goodbye for that matter.
Didn't stay long !!
Has it changed hands perhaps.

Hi,
Three Horseshoes Elsted near Midhurst. Excellent food, and stunning views from pub garden of the Southdowns.

GUIDO'S - in my humble opinion it has everything (providing you like Italian); great service, great ingredients, lovely atmosphere, best tasting food this side of Roma!

Visited the Duke of Cumberland in the last week and still excellent. If anyone thinks it is a greasy fryer and microwave kind of place they are very wrong. That can also be said for a number of the other recommendations on this thread.

What a varied and interesting list of decent places to eat in the area or not all that far, anyway. I am very grateful to you all for taking the time.
Thank you very much! I shall cover up the bathroom scales while I’m visiting all the places over the next couple of months…

What a refreshingly positive post for talkback. Other than a couple of very minor niggles there has been only one negative rant! Just to add my hat into the ring I would suggest The Harrow in Steep

Very quirky, English and very traditional
